35% rise in efficiency
- with intelligent inventory control, using wireless mobile PCs
Instrumeter has helped trim workflow in a firm which stocks and delivers automotive parts. The firm has 11 warehouse locations in Europe.
The company “brain” has been moved from the office to the warehouse floor. Wireless, shock-resistant PCs, mounted directly on the warehouse frontloaders, save time and cut handling costs
This is best illustrated by following a single order:
Orders are sent directly to their frontloader PCs. The specific item is identified by barcode number, and picked from the shelf. The item is driven to shipping while the mobile PC produces address- and product labels, and the frontloader is ready to process the next order.
The system, on the other hand, is still working. Inventory database and shipping lists are automatically updated, and the system produces the invoice and the new entry in the SAP-system. When the invoice is sent, it already contains all necessary information.
Farewell to paper
In the old system, an order spawned a number of independent routines, which took place simultaneously in different parts of the firm: First, a paper order slip for the warehouse, then an address label for shipping, then an archive copy of the order slip, a message that an invoice is to be created, then an invoice. These routines are now incorporated in one intelligent system.
HiPerformingWorkflow
This is the idea behind HiPerformingWorkflow – in this pilot project, it has meant a 35% increase in efficiency. A crucial element in this solution is Instrumeter’s mobile frontloader PC, with wireless network access, and ability to withstand the rough handling, that comes with its position on a hard-working vehicle.
